Maroochydore Bridge LED Lighting Upgrade

Scope of Works 

The project involved upgrading and refurbishing the LED lighting along the Maroochydore Boulevard Bridge, replacing end-of-life equipment. Bailey & Dalton partnered with Innovative Lighting to supply the LED lighting and Miles Plastic to design and manufacture custom weatherproof enclosures. Following removal and decommissioning of the existing lighting, we supplied and installed:

  • 160 m of LED strip lighting
  • 160 m of custom powder-coated aluminium extrusion
  • More than 60 custom LED light housings with new internal LED strips

Stakeholders including TMR and Sunshine Coast Council were engaged to secure the relevant permits before work began. Certified traffic management plans provided for vehicle and pedestrian diversions during lane closures and bridge works. We upgraded the associated wiring and completed testing and commissioning of the new lighting.

Our Role and Approach

Key Challenges & Solutions
  • Coordinating works with Sunshine Coast Council and TMR across an active bridge corridor.
  • Managing day and night shifts to align with lane closure permits and traffic control requirements.
  • Removing and reinstating steel guarding panels while protecting the bridge structure.
  • Integrating custom lighting components with accurate alignment and waterproof sealing for long-term serviceability.
     Safety & Sustainability 
  • Coordinating works over live traffic areas while maintaining safety and access.
  • Implementing fall protection and netting to eliminate falling object hazards.
  • Certified traffic management plans implemented to safely control vehicle and pedestrian movement during works.
  • All old lighting materials and cabling responsibly disposed of through approved recycling channels.
  • Installation of energy-efficient LED lighting to reduce power consumption and carbon footprint
Project Outcomes
  • Delivered a cleaner, more durable and more serviceable public lighting system for Maroochydore Boulevard Bridge.
  • Improved safety, lighting consistency and future maintenance access across the structure.
  • Completed rewiring and associated electrical upgrades tested to current electrical safety standards.
  • Demonstrated Bailey & Dalton Electrical’s capability in public lighting, government electrical services and technically demanding commercial electrical work on the Sunshine Coast.

Partnerships

Miles Plastic

Miles Plastic provided custom frosted acrylic lighting lenses. Using the existing bridge lights as a template Miles Plastic redesigned the lighting shrouds to provide a more robust and durable solution.

Innovative Lighting

Innovative Lighting supplied the bridge’s LED strip lighting, including 150 custom blue strips, and provided onsite support. The 240 V strip system reduced joins and the need for external drivers, supporting future maintenance.

East Coast Traffic Control

East Coast Traffic Control provided a certified traffic management plan in compliance with TMR and SCC permit requirements. They implemented safe and effective traffic control ensuring the safety of all Bailey and Dalton personnel onsite in addition to maintaining minimal traffic disruptions.
